The executive order, titled "Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation," asserts that the U.S. will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist or support the transition of a child's sex through medical means. Based on the order, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is instructed to work with state attorneys general to combat female genital mutilation and to collaborate with Congress to draft legislation that would provide a private right of action for children and parents affected by what the administration terms "chemical and surgical mutilation." In line with this, the White House reported that the executive order is already yielding significant results, with numerous medical facilities halting or pausing so-called "gender-affirming care" for minors. For instance, NYU Langone Health in New York has started canceling appointments for "gender-affirming care" for minors, which includes halting procedures like puberty-blocking implants for two 12-year-olds who were previously scheduled to receive them. Similarly, Denver Health in Colorado has stopped performing gender reassignment surgeries on minors, while UCHealth has announced the termination of all "gender-affirming care" for minors. In Virginia, both VCU Health and Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU have put a hold on providing transgender-related medications and surgeries to minors and UVA Health has suspended all transgender-related services for minors. In Washington, D.C., Children's National Hospital has paused the prescription of puberty blockers and hormone therapies for minors, with Northwest Washington Hospital following suit. Meanwhile, in Illinois, Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is currently reviewing its transgender-related services for minors and in Pennsylvania, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is conducting a thorough review of the transgender-related services they offer to minors.

Trump "greatly honored" to ban federal funding for chemical and surgical mutilation of children

Mark Trammell, the executive director and general counsel of the Center for American Liberty, representing some de-transitioned individuals in legal cases, commended Trump when he signed the executive order. "President Trump is to be commended for his incredible leadership protecting vulnerable children from the gender industrial complex," Trammell said that day. "This executive order rightly distances federal agencies from the discredited World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) while also withholding federal funding from institutions that chemically and surgically mutilate kids." Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that he was greatly honored to sign the said executive order. "It was my great honor to sign an executive order banning the chemical castration and medical mutilation of innocent children in the United States of America. Our nation will no longer fund, sponsor, promote, assist or support so-called 'gender-affirming care,' which has already ruined far too many precious lives. My order directs agencies to use every available means to cut off federal financial participation in institutions which seek to provide these barbaric medical procedures, that should have never been allowed to take place!"
