The bill, which passed in the 118th Congress with a 274-145 vote on Jan. 16, with surprising support from over a quarter of Democrats was already sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee for review. Its passage follows the successful push for the Laken Riley Act, which requires the detention of migrants arrested for theft.

Rep. Tom McClintock accuses Democrats of hypocrisy on "war on women" over immigration bill

HR 30 sparked a heated debate during the hearing when Democrats who opposed it viewed it as demonizing immigrants. "Here we are again, debating another partisan bill that fearmongers about immigrants, instead of working together to fix the immigration system," said Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said. "I probably shouldn't be too surprised. Scapegoating immigrants and attempting to weaponize the crime of domestic violence is appearing to be a time-honored tradition for Republicans." Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler echoed similar sentiments and argued that its redundancies would not result in additional dangerous individuals facing immigration consequences. Supporters of the legislation, including Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), argued that Democrats were being hypocritical in their stance on the "war on women" regarding abortion, but appeared indifferent about allowing sexual offenders and child abusers into the country. McClintock questioned the Democrats' opposition, stating, "If that's true, why do they oppose it?" Mace also highlighted several instances of illegal immigrants committing sex offenses, including the rape of a nine-year-old girl in Ohio. "How many American women and girls have been battered and bloodied due to this insanity?" she asked. "Under my bill, any illegal alien who commits a sex crime is inadmissible to our country and immediately deportable.
