President-elect Donald Trump has announced that former Director of National Intelligence (DNI)
John Ratcliffe will head the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during his second administration.
"I am pleased to announce that former John Ratcliffe will serve as director of the CIA. From exposing fake Russian collusion to be a Clinton campaign operation, to catching the [
Federal Bureau of Investigation's] abuse of civil liberties at the FISA [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] Court, [he] has always been a warrior for truth and honesty with the American public," he wrote.
"When 51 intelligence officials were lying about Hunter Biden's laptop, there was one – John Ratcliffe – telling the truth to the American people. He will be a fearless fighter for the constitutional rights of all Americans, while ensuring the highest levels of national security and peace through strength." (Related:

According to the
Daily Mail, "Trump used language suggesting it was a done deal." The position of CIA director requires the confirmation of the U.S. Senate, though the Republican Party taking control of the chamber following this month's elections could expedite it.
In October 2020, then-DNI Ratcliffe told
Fox News that there was "no intelligence to support" claims that Russian disinformation was behind the emails from the presidential son's "laptop from hell." That same year, Trump awarded Ratcliffe – a former congressman representing the Fourth District of Texas in the U.S. Congress – the National Security Medal.
True enough, the owner of a computer repair shop in Delaware came forward and revealed that the younger Biden himself dropped off the laptop for repair. The business owner, John Paul Mac Isaac, added that he uncovered the information while working on it. Isaac's disclosure essentially debunked claims that Moscow was involved in the release of the emails.
Trump completing lineup for his second cabinet
"Trump has railed ever since he entered the White House about the Russia probe, which began during [his] 2016 campaign as a probe of contacts between Trump advisors who had Russia ties," the
Mail continued. "He has long said the probe hobbled his administration from the outset."
Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller found that while Moscow did interfere in the presidential campaign, he saw no evidence that "the Trump campaign, or anyone associated with it, conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in these efforts, despite multiple efforts from Russian-affiliated individuals to assist." A later investigation by Special Counsel John Durham found that the FBI committed serious misconduct in the course of its investigation of Trump.
The
Mail noted that the president-elect "has been settling on officials with electoral experience and known reputations in Washington." Ratcliffe's announcement as CIA director came on the same day as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee being named as U.S. ambassador to Israel. Huckabee's daughter Sarah Huckabee Sanders served as White House press secretary during the real estate mogul's first term.
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was named as secretary of state under the second Trump administration, while his colleague U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was named as the U.S. attorney general – the head of the
Department of Justice. In contrast, Trump publicly announced that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley won't be getting any position in the new administration.
Other names floated for top security posts in the second Trump administration include former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Ric Grinell, former National Security Advisor Gen. Michael Flynn and Kash Patel, a senior official in the first Trump administration.
